Events and activities at Suja TCV School

14th Inter House Athletics Meet Suja :17th October 2009
TCV School Suja held its 14th Inter House Athletics Meet which was dedicated to 50years in exile and the second anniversary of His Holiness being awarded the prestigious Us COngressional Gold medal. The day began with the arrival of the chief Guest, Mr. Tsewang Yeshi la, the President of the TCV Schools and the other dignitaries including the Tibetan Representatives from the nearby Tibetan Settlements and the Pricipals and Directors of Nearby TCV Schools. On the very outset, the students presented the classwise march pass with their appealing banners.The March pass was led by the school band followed by meet flags, 50years in exile flags, Tibetan National flag, the school captains and prefect making it to the total of nearly 700 students all in neat dresses.As a part of the ceremony, the school dance group which went to Lower TCV for Cultural competition and bagged second position, presented their two items, solo and Kham Dance. Right after the ceremonial function, the 14th Inter House athletics began, starting from the Hurdles to the sprint events and then to the field events.Tension rose high in the air as the events turn in one after the other. There was sound of cheers coming from the house tents located at one corner of the ground and the spectators as well.The score board marks kept changing as one event followed the other. In the afternoon, it was all relay races and the one which drew everybody's attention.There were other schools taking part in the final invitational relay. In the midst of all these, the day finally came to an end with Triral house standing far ahead of other three houses with a total score of 361 and Nyatri House coming next with 273. The other two houses namely Trisong and Songtsen coming below them with 239 and 224 respectively.Towards the end of the day, the chief guest distributed the prizes and priased highly of the school for such a successful event. 3 Days TOC Day concludes successfully: 7th October 2009

The three days Tibet Our Country Day concluded successfully with a very moving Tibetan Drama enacted from the famous book " The Undying Flame" by the late Mr. Kunsang Paljor la in the evening. The third day began with the arrival of the chief guest Kasur SOnam Topgyal la, a

former chief Kalon of the Exile Tibetan Government along with the dignitaries and representatvies of Dege and BTS, School Principals from Sambhota Bir and TCV Chauntra.The function began with a long life prayer and offering of scarves to His Holiness the XIVth Dalai Lama's photo.The school DIrector gave an introductory speech about the reasons behind observing this Tibet Our Country Day.The program started with the famous "Drekhar" followed by few class presentations. The presentations were sandwiched between cultural presentations. Refreshments were served by the school Welfare Committee.Before the morning program ended, the results of the recently held painting was announced and the prizes were given by the chief guest. After that, the chief guest Kasur Sonam Topgyal la gave a valuable talk to the gathering. The school Principal thanked the chief guest and all the other dignitaries for their presence and presented a souvenir of school magazines to the chief guest. After that, the chief guest cut the ribbon of the exhibition room and the guest as well as the staff members were ushered to the Tibet Our Country exhibition. After that, a traditional Tibetan dishes were served for all the guests as well as the staff members. In the evening, a Tibetan Drama was staged.After the

Drama, the school Principal Mr. SOnam SIchoe la thanked all the staff members especially the Tibetan Department for their wonderful and successful holding of Tibet Our Country Day. Speaking about the Drama, he reminded the students as well as the staff members to do their duties with full dedication.This three days' TOC Day ended fruitfully with everybody more aware of our rich Tibetan culture and tradition.
Tibet Our Country Day: 5th OCtober 2009

Tibet Our Country, one of the Major programs in every TCV School,began here. This year being the 50 years in exile, the school had decided to extend the celebration to three days instead of the usual one day. Tibet Our country Day was first started way back in 1978 by TCV Upper Dahramsala Junior section. This program was started with a strong purpose of educating the young exile children about the Tibetan rich culture and tradition. Since then, it spread to other TCV Schools. Here in our school. the day began with every body coming in traditional national dress and the singing of the National anthem. The function was attended by the school Director, the Principal, the staff members and the students.

The aim and objective of this day was presented by the chairperson of the Tibetan Department, Mr. Ackloe la.The project of TOC had been carried on since a couple of weeks back. Different classes were given their own theme and topics. Some of the classes were given presentations while some models. The models were displayed in the school hall and would be soon open for all. During the function, some of the classes presented their topics one by one. In between the presentation, the the program organisers had arranged some refreshments of songs, dramas and stand up comedies etc. There was 25 minutes break before the lunch break.Thus the morning program lasted for little more than 3 hours.
Charity show for the project " Feel At Home" :4th October 2009
A charity Contert for the project " Feel at Home" was staged on the basketball ground on the night of 4th October. The concert was arranged by the TCV alumni Kathmandu, Nepal as a fund raising program for the above project. " Feel at Home" is a special charity Project initiated by TCV Alumni Association, Kathmandu. It is dedicated to facilitate the needy children to live and experience the family life with warm and love from their elder brothers and sisters in Kathmandu while they are on holiday. This project starts from second week of December and it last for a month. There were five popular singers, who have very kindly consented to perform free of charge for this nobel cause.They had already performed the show in TIPA before coming to Suja.From here, there will be three more TCV Gopalpur, TCV Dharamsala and finally Delhi, from where they are going to draw the lottery which have been circulating few weeks back. Here in Suja, the whole basketball court and the steps around was packed with people both young and adult who had come there to enjoy the great singers as they serenaded.The whole crowd enjoyed especially when such concert and show was for some noble cause.Before the show concluded, the school Director and the Principal thanked them especially the organizers and presented them traditiional Tibetan scarves and some money on behalf of all the staff and students. Later in the end, the President of TCVAA, Kathmandu Mr. Pemtse la thanked the school for the kind hospitality. Taking that opportunity, he said brief about the current project. During the show, there were people who made donations for this project. Everything went good as usual. Inter House Marathon Race : 2nd October 2009

The fornight vigorous practice of the marathon was finally flagged off by the school Director, Mr. Ngodup Wangdue on the Gandhi Jayanti or Non Violence Day.The marathon was held among the four houses namely Trisong, Nyatri, Songtsen and Triral. There were 15 runners from each house making the number of the contestants to 60. A lots of crowd had circled the ground to witness the mega event marathon and to cheer up their respective house runners. Out of the two divisions, the girls open marathon( 7 km ) started at 9:10 am.Within 20 minutes, the first runner of the girls came while others came one after the other. This was followed by the boys common ( 10 km).

The first runner came back after 25 minutes. FInally the over all boys and girls' results were as follows : First Position : Nyatri House Second Position : Trisong House Thir Position : Triral House Fourth Position : Songtsen House
